CHARLES DOUGLASS has had an extremely active career, spanning over a forty year period. Hailing from Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love: he is a Producer, Director, Actor and award winning writer. He a has appeared in over eight Broadway shows including the title role in "The Wiz", he was in the Broadway show, "Eubie", " The Lion And The Jewel" starring Loretta Devine, the famed prison drama "The Poison Tree" by Ron Ribman Co-starring with Mr. Moses Gunn and Cleavon Little. As well as the contemporary Opera 'Lily' at The Lincoln Center NYC with Baritone, Aura Barbarian.
CHARLES has also co-starred in the London production of an award winning musical opposite Ms. Lena Horne for the International tour of "Lena Horne.. The Lady and Her Music"
While touring with Jimmy Justice and Lauren Bacall in the Pre- Broadway hit "Sweet Bird of Youth." Charles decided to stay on the west coast and establish roots in Los Angeles and later joined forces with Michael Ray Barnes as they created P.A.L.E.F. and later birthed “The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Songfest”
On television, Mr. Douglass originated the role of "Haskell" in "Star Trek. The Next Generation", among other television and movie appearances.
Mr. Douglass is the proud recipient of two coveted NAACP Theatre Awards for Excellence In Musical Theater Writing & Producing, in Los Angeles.
As a writer, Mr. Douglass has been commissioned to create a trilogy of Shakespearean comedies as contemporary American Musical Theatre. He is adapting "A Midsummer's Night's Dream", "Much Ado About Nothing" and "As You like It" in order to create Mr. Douglass' "Funkified Shakespearean Musical Trilogy"
He also wrote a dynamic calypso musical play "De Obeah Mon" (based on Moliere's The Doctor In Spite of Himself) and has received 6 NAACP Theater Awards, rave notices, multiple accolades, other awards and honors.
Currently, Charles Douglass has a few projects currently in Development for 2023: "It's The Happiest Time Of The Year" (originally titled "And Christmas Came To Watts Too") and "Mummy and The Ghost" a Television sit-com created by Mr. Douglass and Mr. Shelly Kurtz.
